"Rugby Futures has got a great future in rugby! Charlie and Jim are two of the most enthusiastic players, coaches and now evangelists for rugby that I have ever met. They are providing children with ideal environment in which they can learn rugby and develop their skills. At the same time they are learning about the camaraderie and challenges that rugby can give you."
Jonathan Webb, Ex-Bath RFC and England
"I have known Charlie since we were at school together at Colston's Collegiate in Bristol. He always had a passion for rugby, so I was really pleased when he told me about Rugby Futures. Charlie and Jim then asked me if I would like to get involved with the coaching side.
"I was more than happy to help out with the coaching, so I could pass on some of my knowledge to the players of the future.
"The more children who are enjoying rugby at grassroots level will hopefully increase the amount of people playing for their local club, and they will hopefully continue with there enthusiasm into senior rugby.
"I have made many friends and colleagues during my rugby career so far and hopefully all the children involved with rugby futures can do the same."
Lee Mears, Bath RFC and England
"All children should be given the opportunity to participate in Sport & Exercise so I think what Charlie and Jim are doing at Rugby Futures is great. There's just not enough P.E. in schools anymore. Getting involved in Rugby will help kids with their discipline and making friends and its a sport for all shapes and sizes! Good luck guys and keep up the good work."
Duncan Bell, Bath RFC and England
"Rugby Futures have been supporting Brentry Primary School since September 2005 in delivering PE lessons which involve children in all year groups in a range of different sports, not just Rugby but Football, Hockey and Netball too.
"Their coaching expertise, together with our own teaching staff, has allowed our children to experience a wide range of sporting activities, to learn how much fun sport and exercise can be and to enable the school to deliver the PE Curriculum in a new and exciting way.
"The children are really enjoying their weekly coaching sessions and the school has been delighted with the partnership we have with Rugby Futures. Everyone has benefited."
Laurence Frewin, Brentry Primary School
"For us, Rugby Futures provides great sporting opportunity that is notavailable within a normal
school day for our children. We have beenimpressed with the level of coaching and enthusiasm
shown by the RF coaches. Both our boys (aged 5 & 7) enjoy the after school sessions, and are
wellmotivated each time, despite the cold weather!"
Henrietta Gibbs, Mother of George and Harry at Westbury Park
"My sons have been playing rugby with Rugby Futures for several years. The eldest has now left
Elmlea and has started secondary school where he continues to be keen on rugby. He has joined
the lunchtime rugby club and has been selected for the school team. Playing rugby with Rugby
Futures has certainly sparked an interest for him and has given him a great deal of confidence
to pursue it at his new school where many of the boys are playing for the first time.
"My sons have been coached by Charlie and Jim who have been really inspiring, giving them
confidence in their ability and making rugby sessions fun. They treat the boys as real players
rather than young boys, which is a good thing as it encourages them to respond in a mature way.
The coaches always seem to be having a great time on the pitch, loving their work. At primary
school the boys are often taught by female teachers so it is good to have some male coaching.
It is very important for my boys to have the opportunity to be themselves, run around and let
off steam after a day cooped up at school.
"Last year the school had a few female rugby players in Year 6. They were welcome to play just
like the boys and were treated in the same way. They played very well and got stuck in, the
same as everyone else.
"When they joined Rugby Futures my sons had no previous experience of playing rugby. Their
progress has been quite staggering from the early days of running aimlessly around the pitch
to their present stage of good line formations and positive moves and passes.
"The most noticeable progress has been their enthusiasm for the game of rugby. Their interest
in the game has grown considerably. They like to play in the garden or park, and always want
to watch rugby on TV if there is a game. A new rugby ball is always on their Birthday or
Christmas present wish list.
"On a final note, I just wanted to share a story about my youngest son. In the first few weeks
he was despondent at rugby coaching sessions, complaining that the good ones always hogged the
ball and he never got any of the action because he didn't know what he was doing and wasn't any good.
I mentioned this to Jim, his coach, who was very receptive to my feedback and in the course of the
next few weeks made my son feel more valued as a player. His confidence grew over the weeks and
now my son is a good, enthusiastic player. Rugby is the highlight of his week and he would hate
to miss it.
"As far as I am concerned it is money well spent for my sons to have good, professional rugby
coaching and a fun hour doing some exercise outside. The coaches have been very reliable, always
turning up whatever the weather and encouraging the boys to play rain or shine or freezing cold;
they even played in the dark last week. The boys love the mud of course, giving me a weekly
laundry challenge, which I don't mind."
