After an emphatic win against Millfied morale was high in the camp! Our next fixture was against a welsh team who are very strong right the way through the school, and have only asked us for a fixture this year, so this was a potential banana skin.
However that theory was soon squashed within minutes of the first half. The first time Tom Scammell got his hands on the ball, guess what TRY TIME!!!!
That was not to be his only score of the day as he scored another three before half time.
Nick Batchelor also got a reward for his Trojan efforts with a score just before half time aswell. All the forwards we at there usual best, winning every ruck and dominating the scrums. Both Harry Thompson and Morgan Churchley came very close to scoring running practically the full length of the pitch! Will Darby was always the first one to every ruck doing the important job of getting the ball away quickly. Cameron Scott seems to be getting better with every game and Hamish Potokar had his best performance in a B.G.S shirt ever!!!
Brendan Murray had another awesome display working well with Will Darby getting the ball away and also showing great vision by taking the ball blind on two scrums and scored both times.
Will Comley came on as a second half substitute and was very unlucky not to score almost running through their whole defence, and Hitin Patel finished off another good team effort with a try for himself.
The Grange did manage to sneak in for one try but we still ran out winners 40-5. Well done boys keep up the good work.
This was our first match of the season, so it was important we got off to a good start.
After losing our captain from last season we had to appoint a new captain who would lead by example. That responsibility was given to Harry Thompson, and he didn't disappoint.
Although Harry didn't get on the scoresheet he did the important job of winning the ball in the rucks along with Will Darby and Morgan Churchley. This was an area that had to be improved from last year and they all successfully made the step up.
For the first seven minutes or so both sides were working hard and didn't seem like budging, until Nick Batchelor saw a bit of space, he hit the gap and offloaded to Tom Scammell, he took the outside and left there defender for dead to open the scoring.
Millfield were obviously rocked as Morgan Churchley burst through there whole defence to extend the lead to 10-0. B.G.S were growing in confidence, none more so than Cameron Scott! He was running at the defence creating gaps that weren't there and tackling as if his life depended on it.
Cameron opened up the Millfield defence once again to put Tom Scammell in for his second try of the match and B.G.S' third.
Will Comley didn't see much of the ball in the first half but was like a rock in defence.
Just on the stroke of half time B.G.S were caught napping and Millfield scored a breakaway try.
At the start of the second half new boy Francis came on for his debut and made an immediate impact. Brenden Murray also made an immediate impact in the second half. 10 yards from Millfields line he drove with the ball in hand over Millfields line with what seemed there entire team clinging onto him! Unfortunately bodies were everywhere and Mr.
Thompson did not have access to a video ref! To Brenden's disgust I awarded an attacking scrum fro which Nick Batchelor drove over to to extend the lead to 20-5.
However Brenden wasn't finished there, he did eventually get on the scoresheet. Not forgetting Hamish Potokar who made some jinking runs which had the opposition at sixes and sevens.
The match finished with a good team performance 25-5.
